Sexual phases similar to those described for other teredinids are described for Bankia neztalia Turner & McKoy from Wellington Harbour. Examination of gonads of specimens collected during 1970–72 showed that B. neztalia is a protandrous hermaphrodite. Spawning times could not be determined on the basis of gonad stages alone.
