Abstract
Surface circulation for Hawke Bay, New Zealand, has been described as consisting of 2 cells defined by an inflow along the midline of the bay and outflows at either end. Observations in February 1980 suggest a different, 3‐cell, pattern with 2 parallel intrusions of oceanic water and 3 outflows. This description is offered in addition to, rather than in place of, previous ones. Bottom circulation was probably 2‐cell. Indirect evidence suggests that the source of the surface inflows was to the south.
