Abstract
A comparison between Svalbard and Axel Heiberg Island is the main content of this paper: geology. gross morphology, climate and glaciation in a general way, and forms connected with present-day morphological processes in some detail. Main interest is paid to the lower boundary of the block field zone, to tundra polygons and fluvial activity, particularly to young V-valleys and alluvial fans. The differences between the two Arctic areas are the result mainly of geology and differences in climate.
