Pages 55-65 | Published online: 15 Apr 2008

Abstract

This article deals with the impacts of the intensification process on the physical environment, farming practices, women's work and household welfare. Our findings suggest a modification of Boserup's theoretical views. The fieldwork was carried out during the Maha season 1985–86 in Balaharuwa Grama Sewaka Division, Moncragala District, Sri Lanka.
