The Norwegian Geographical Society's 100-year anniversary in 1989

Pages 121-122 | Published online: 15 Apr 2008

Abstract

The Norwegian Geographical Society was established in 1889 in the wave of enthusiasm surrounding Fridtjof Nansen's triumphant return from his Trans-Greenland expedition. The Society is indebted to Nansen for its inception, but also for several memorable meetings with Nansen on the platform. The main articles in this centennial issue are devoted to the fields in which Nansen made his most lasting contributions.
