The centrality of medical geography to human geography: the traditions of geographical and medical geographical thought

Pages 175-187 | Published online: 15 Apr 2008

Abstract

There is great interpenetration and overlap between the major traditions of medical geography and of geographical thought. Thus, medical geography is at the core of geographical investigation. Pattison's ‘four traditions of geography’ provide a useful framework for demonstrating the centrality of geography to medical geography, and of medical geography to geography.
