The landscape of Aurland

Pages 9-11 | Published online: 15 Apr 2008

Abstract

Aurland's modern landscape is placed in a larger perspective, emphasizing the importance of this watercourse landscape within the framework of the full range of Norwegian landscapes. Aurland is the result of complex development processes, the latest being large-scale technical encroachments effected through road construction and a hydropower development project. Nonetheless, a variety of areas of virtually untouched wilderness remain, providing numerous opportunities for a wide range of outdoor experiences.
