Watercourse management in Norway

Pages 75-79 | Published online: 15 Apr 2008

Abstract

Norway has a long tradition of exploiting its watercourses as power sources. A number of acts of legislation regulate the use. But the protection plan is not enacted by law, it is a plenary resolution adopted by the Storting. New information about problems caused by encroachments, possible remedies, improved financial allocations and the desire and resolve to do as little damage as possible having gradually resulted in more attention being paid to other users with environmental interests.
