A new and simple method ‐ the thermal colour test (TCT) ‐ for investigation of pottery and raw clay material is suggested. The method is based on colour changes of clays during firing. The Munsell Color Chart System is used as a standard colour reference. TCT is expected to be widely used for research on ceramics.
