Abstract

All the thirty-six species of the entimine genus Lepropus Schoenherr of the family Curculionidae (Coleoptera) known from the Oriental Region are reviewed. The taxonomic characters used and the economic importance of the group are discussed. Eight new species, namely, christopheri, janakiramani, mysorensis, siamensis, sublateralis, swarajae, thompsoni and venkataramani are described. Five species, chinensis, cinereus, lateralis, scintillans and submarginalis are redescribed. The descriptions of many already described species are supplemented with characters of elytral vestiture and genitalia. An annotated checklist and a key to the Oriental species are given.
