Abstract

A survey of chironomid midges (Diptera: Chironomidae) conducted from September 1997 to October 1999 covering all major geographical zones in Egypt, resulted in the capture of three species of Cladotanytarsus Kieffer. Two of these have been previously recorded, while one new species, Cladotanytarsus aegyptius, sp. nov. is described from male and female imagines. A key to the male imagines is presented. New distributional data for the three collected species are also provided.
