The present state of insect taxonomic resources

Pages v-viii | Published online: 05 Jan 2012

Abstract

Insect pest species, whether indigenous or endemic, most often for quarantine and other agricultural purposes require quick and easy access to insect taxonomic resources, nationally as well as internationally. The fast developing field of forensic entomology, helping in criminal investigations also demands identification of the insect species involved. There is thus an increasing demand for insect taxonomic services in science and society. But quite interestingly, there are ever decreasing monetary and professional insect taxonomic resources.
