LIFE EXPECTANCY OF THE CAPE SPARROW

Cape Sparrows Passer melanurus ringed and recaptured at Barberspan Ornithological Research Station have a mean life expectancy of 1,09 years and a mean survival rate of 0,37. Survival and life expectancy are significantly different between males and females. Males have a life expectancy of 1,54 years after first capture and females have a life expectancy of 1,16 years after first capture. The estimated productivity is 3,54 young per pair per lifetime or 3,25 young per pair per breeding season.
