Abstract
(1) The present article is based largely on parts of the same authors’ The History of State Education in New Zealand, 1840‐1975, recently published by Pitman (Melbourne), and commemorates the centenary of New Zealand's adoption of a state‐centralized — although incomplete — system of education.
