Superplasticity as an arrhenius rate process

Abstract

The empirical observation that for superplastic deformation the apparent activation energy determined at constant strain rate is closer to the activation energy for grain boundary diffusion (i.e. that appropriate to the kinetics of the process) compared to the apparent activation energy evaluated at constant stress, is accounted for. The general case in which the activation energy is a function of temperature, stress and strain rate is also considered.
