ABSTRACT

Aminophosphonic acids have become increasingly important in different fields. The extraction behaviour of samarium (III) (Sm(III)) from nitrate medium was studied using diaminododecylphosphonic acid (DADTMTPA) in chloroform. The effect of various factors, such as nature of the solvent, pH, metal concentration, and foreign anions present in the aqueous phase, was investigated in order to establish the mechanism of the extraction process. The data obtained suggest an ion-exchange mechanism. The results show that Sm3+ is extracted till 80% in one step and under the experimental conditions of 25°C, [DADTMTPA] =  M, stirring time of 10 min, and a volumic ratio equal to 1. The extraction yield decreases with increasing temperature. The DADTMTPA extracts Sm(III) with a yield of 98% after the second cycle.
