Abstract
“It seems that it's always the people who ‘make’ a program. In our case, we have a rich history of people who took on the new field of polymers, made it their own, and then made it Michigan's,” says Professor David C. Martin. Martin has been Director of the University of Michigan's Macromolecular Science and Engineering Program since 2000 and is also Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. Established by Charles G. Overberger in 1968, the original Macromolecular Research Center was formed to coordinate research in macromolecular science, to support postdoctoral research, to train graduate students in polymer science, and to interact with the nationwide polymer industry.
