A note on the mediaeval longevity of the Secular peerage 1350–1500

Pages 155-159 | Published online: 09 Nov 2011

Summary

Some comments are made on an article by Professor Joel T. Rosenthal that appeared in Population Studies for July 1973. It is argued that the mortality of adult males in the English peerage may have been heavier in the mediaeval period than Rosenthal calculated. Some comparisons are made with similar populations, and the role of violence in such mortality is briefly considered.
