Nonoperative Treatment of Perforated Duodenal Ulcer

Abstract

One hundred and six cases of perforated peptic ulcer were treated without operative closure. Only one death occurred due to coronary thrombosis. In addition, four patients died, having been moribund on admission. Treatment consisted of continuous effective gastric decompression, combined intravenous administration of antibiotic and chemotherapeutic agents, sedation and parenteral feeding.
