Abstract
Fibrosarcoma is the most common important tumor of the extremities. The pathologic aspects of these tumors, which are important from the clinical point of view, are the pronounced tendency toward invasion into surrounding mesenchymal tissue, a pronounced tendency to recur unless radically excised, and the danger to the patient of recurrence and vascular metastases. Radical excision of the tumor without attempting to dissect away its attachments is the minimal surgical procedure. Recurrence of a sarcoma after an attempt at local excision is an indication for amputation.
