Some Current Problems in Sanitary Engineering

Abstract

One of the primary functions of the sanitary or public health engineer is to translate the findings of medical science into mechanisms for environmental control at minimum cost. Some problems of current interest in the exercise of this function are discussed in this paper: infant methemoglobinemia produced by high-nitrate waters, fluoride in water supplies as a means of influencing tooth formation, and recent developments in the technics of water and sewage disinfection.
