Abstract

The prevention and control of many diseases and disabilities require a knowledge of the effects of the social and physical environment on man. These influences are very complex in our modern industrial society and are likely to become even more so. Some of the simpler and relatively well known problems include the effects of atmospheric contamination and environmental heat stress. Solution of such problems involves the cooperation of physiologists with epidemiologists and industrial hygiene engineers in a combined effort.
