John Arderne, The Father of English Surgery

Abstract

John Ardene, a fourteenth century Englishman, was a master of the art and science of surgery. He gained knowledge far in advance of his times through experience, common sense and available literature. His results and views he committed to writing and illustration which established surgical principles and technics that merited him the title, “Father of English Surgery.”
