Abstract
Since it has been shown that ultrasonic radiation has therapeutic possibilities, this form of energy has been extensively employed in medicine. It has found its chief value in the treatment of the arthritides and allied rheumatoid disorders and in diseases of the peripheral nerves and blood vessels. Ultrasonic energy can produce irreversible destructive changes. Therefore it must be applied with care, in proper dosage, and by experienced personnel. Ultrasonic radiation is local therapy capable of producing analgesic effects without influencing underlying causes.
