Abstract

The fundamental pathology of polycystic disease of the kidney, a relatively rare but clinically important congenital malformation, is untreatable. If the pathologic physiology is understood, and a therapeutic regimen is established early through the full cooperation of an internist and a urologist, the lives of patients afflicted with this disease can be prolonged and made more comfortable.
