Pages 60-66 | Published online: 06 Jul 2016

Abstract

Prevention of infection is of primary importance in management of compound fractures. At Queen Mary Veterans' Hospital, Montreal, debridement and application of split-skin grafts have yielded impressive results in such injuries. This procedure proved effective in the six cases presented by the authors. In three cases, there was gross contamination with extensive soft-tissue damage and skin loss; infection developed before therapy was instituted in the other three cases.
