Abstract
Information relating ECHO virus infections and human illness is being rapidly accumulated. To date, 20 antigenically different types of ECHO viruses have been established according to their ability to reproduce type-specific neutralizing antibodies. ECHO viruses have been recovered from humans with diarrhea, meningitis, meningo-encephalitis, summer rash and respiratory infections. The spectra of illnesses caused by ECHO viruses may not be fully known for many years.
