Surgical Treatment of Persistent Symptoms Following Cholecystectomy

Abstract

Symptoms of biliary tract disease are not always relieved after a primary operation. The incidence of overlooked common duct stones indicates the need for operative cholangiography at the time of primary biliary tract surgery. Nonsurgical disease also may cause a patient's symptoms. A complete survey of the entire gastrointestinal tract is mandatory to reduce the number of secondary operations.
