DISEASES OF THE SKIN—SPECIAL SERIES

Acne—the Situation at Present

Pages 446-455 | Published online: 06 Jul 2016

Abstract

Although the pathogenesis of acne is better understood than it was 10 years ago, there are still divergent views on some of the facets involved. Hyperplasia, abnormal follicular keratinization and host susceptibility are considered the essential factors in the development of acne; however, the mechanisms governing these factors are still controversial. According to the author, individualized treatment based on sound rationale is usually successful. The effectiveness of dermabrasion depends chiefly on the skill of the operator and the shape of the scars.
