Wound Debridement

Pages 34-39 | Published online: 06 Jul 2016

Abstract

In wounds produced by high-velocity missiles, the amount of tissue destruction varies directly with the amount of energy transmitted by the missile and with the structure and organization of the tissue traversed. Resultant effects on tissues have led to principles and practices of debridement which, if carefully followed, will hold morbidity and mortality to a minimum. This presentation discusses causation and preferred treatment of wounds, emphasizing proper debridement and closure.
