Itching

Abstract

Itching may be caused by local factors, systemic disorders or psychogenic disturbances. A correct diagnosis of the causative factors is essential if effective treatment is to be given. Treatment involves correction of the underlying disorder, when possible, and relief of itching by topical or systemic therapy. Although the corticosteroids are used widely, the physician should not ignore the other less expensive medications.
