The Practical Aspects of Anemia Therapy in Pregnancy

Abstract

Either oral or intramuscular iron may be administered in the therapy of iron-deficiency states associated with pregnancy. Response to oral iron salts is adequate but gradual and slow. I f sufficient time is available prior to delivery, oral therapy is preferred, Intramuscular injection of iron is a safe method with relatively few side effects, and the hematologic response often is dramatic.
