Abstract
Atopic dermatitis in young people may be mild or generalized and disabling. Its etiology is obscure, but a combination of factors including allergic features, vascular imbalance and psychosomatic disturbances seems to be involved. While conventional allergic therapy has little practical value, rest, moderation of activities, change of residence, and corticosteroid therapy may produce improvement. Treatment of the skin alone, without giving due consideration to the over-all picture, will invariably be unsuccessful.
