Crisis Types of Abdominal Pain

Pages 495-501 | Published online: 06 Jul 2016

Abstract

When constant and widespread abdominal pain is not influenced by eating, defecating or passing gas, it is probably of central origin. An observer should recognize that there is little likelihood of an abdominal lesion in frequent episodes of severe abdominal pain which terminate spontaneously and in which the abdominal wall is soft. A hysterical element is sometimes observed in this syndrome. A carefully elicited history is helpful in diagnosis.
