Difficult Labor

Pages 701-706 | Published online: 06 Jul 2016

Abstract

Difficult labor occurs in about 6 per cent of obstetric cases. Dystocia should be recognized within a few hours after the cervix has begun to dilate. Stimulation or sedation is instituted according to the pattern of labor, the fetopelvic relationship, and the presence of abnormalities of the presenting part. Conservatism and patience must be exercised in the use of forceps.
