Treatment of the Shoulder—hand Syndrome

Pages 800-804 | Published online: 06 Jul 2016

Abstract

Prophylactic treatment of the shoulder-hand, syndrome following acute myocardial infarction or anginal attack should start while the patient is confined to bed.

Active motion of the arm helps overcome splinting, atrophy and osteoporosis, and may overcome lymphatic and venous stasis. Concomitant use of cortisone lessens pain and spasm.
