Abstract
Postgraduate medical education has developed rapidly since World War II due to physicians' demands for refresher courses and graduate training in the specialties.
Postgraduate training at The University of Michigan Medical Center operates under academic direction as a department of the undergraduate medical school, and it is sufficiently decentralized to be within the reach of every practitioner in the state.
The current postgraduate medical program in Michigan includes extramural and intramural courses, affiliated hospital and visiting programs, and training in basic science and general practice.
