The Role of Chrysotherapy in Active Rheumatoid Arthritis

Twenty-Five Year Evaluation

Pages 623-626 | Published online: 06 Jul 2016

Abstract

Patients of all ages and with all stages of active rheumatoid arthritis can be treated successfully with gold salts over long periods without deleterious effects. Judicious selection of the proper weekly dose and the maintenance dose is most important. The weekly dose should not exceed 50 mg. A course of 20 to 22 weeks usually suffices to produce a remission. Careful observation of the patient, with weekly urinalysis and regular inspection of the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat, is essential.
