Abstract
Early diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism is desirable to minimize complications involving bone, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract and pancreas.
The danger of procrastination once the diagnosis is established lies in the possible development of visceral complications and the so-called hypercalcemic crisis.
In the case reported, renal and gastrointestinal complications due to parathyroid adenoma were present.
Prompt surgical treatment may reverse the renal failure in some cases.
