Abstract
When the requirements of proper dosage, duration and distribution of administration. are met, propylthiouracil and similar agents are effective, safe, inexpensive and convenient in treatment of hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism in youth and in pregnancy presents special problems, and antithyroid drugs are the treatment of choice. We believe that the uncertainty of the long-term effects of radioiodine warrants the use of antithyroid drugs in most young adults with hyperthyroidism.
