The Diagnosis of Curable Unilateral Renal Hypertension by Ureteral Catheterization

Pages 496-504 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

A new concept in the diagnosis of curable renovascular hypertension is presented, based on comparative measurement of re-absorption of water in the two kidneys.

The requisite conditions for measuring maximal reabsorption of water in the presence of renal ischemia and the technic for obtaining meaningful data by ureteral catheterization are presented in detail.

With the method described, diagnosis as well as treatment of curable renovascular hypertension is specific.

Aortography, with its attendant artefacts, risks and equivocation concerning the functional significance of an anatomic lesion, is rarely necessary in the treatment of these patients.
