Abstract
Much attention has been focused in recent years on the adrenal cortex and its key role in maintaining body homeostasis. Appropriately, interest in abnormalities of adrenocortical function has grown as tests of such function have been perfected and diagnostic criteria improved.
Dr. Melby, associate professor of medicine and biochemistry, University of Arkansas School of Medicine, Little Rock, has made important contributions to the clinical analysis of adrenocortical function. This month and next he reviews the present status of adrenocortical function tests and their use in evaluating abnormal functional states.—Ellis S. Benson, M.D.
