Abstract
There are many kinds of diabetic neuropathy. Involvement may occur in the cranial or peripheral nerves or the autonomic nervous system, and is more frequently seen in the lower extremities than in the upper extremities.
Arteriosclerosis and vitamin-dietary deficiencies are known causes of neuropathy. Unknown intermediary metabolites also may be implicated.
General treatment includes skin care and relief of pain. More specific treatment is determined by the type of neuropathy.
