Abstract
Cancer of the cervix causes more deaths in women than does any other form of cancer, Detecting and eradicating the preinvasive stage of this malignancy is the most potent weapon in combating it.
Cytologic screening of asymptomatic women has led to discovery of 5 to 10 unsuspected malignancies per 1000 patients.
The author reports on an intensive cancer detection campaign conducted at a relatively small air force base.
