Local Steroid Injection Therapy in Rheumatic Diseases

Pages 283-292 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Local intraarticular and extraarticular administration of steroids is firmly established as a highly effective, dependable method of therapy in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and fibrositis. All practitioners who care for patients with these diseases should use the method more frequently. Strict aseptic precautions are necessary relative to the syringe, needle and material injected, and, probably even more important, accurate diagnosis is imperative. More than 75 per cent of the injections produce clinically significant benefit.
