Abstract
Glaucoma accounts for approximately 12 per cent of the blindness in the United States. At present, nearly one million people have undiagnosed glaucoma. Early detection of glaucoma is the most important factor in preventing loss of vision.
Tonometry has proved to be the best procedure for detecting early glaucoma; it is recommended as a part of every routine physical examination.
The author reports on results of routine tonometry performed on 1000 air force personnel; previously undetected glaucoma was revealed in 10 patients; the disease was suspected in 12 other patients.
