Abstract
Methods and criteria used in diagnosing and controlling diabetes, brittle diabetes, diabetic coma, circulatory problems and orally administered hypoglycemic agents are among the various aspects of diabetes considered in this discussion.
The authors also differentiate between prediabetes and latent diabetes, pointing out that the former is often undiagnosed until diabetes develops, while laboratory procedures will demonstrate the latter.
Patients should be examined for latent diabetes before surgery, as this condition may influence the type of operation, the anesthetic employed, and the time lapse before surgery is performed.
