Abstract
Mechanical trauma to the lumbosacral plexus may cause maternal sensory and motor changes from paresthesias in the distribution of the external popliteal or peroneal nerve to complete anesthesia, and from weakness to complete paralysis of the involved muscles.
Treatment consists of various forms of physical therapy. In the presence of weakness, the involved muscles are splinted in the position of function. Leg braces are used for ambulatory patients. Surgical treatment is indicated in some instances.
