Abstract
Azotemic anemia is a normocytic normo-chromic anemia which has its roots in defective utilization of iron and chronic failure of the bone marrow. It is secondarily aggravated by a hemolytic process and at times may be made more severe by bleeding. Treatment is nonspecific, largely supportive, and directed primarily toward the underlying renal disease. Rather rapid strides have been made in the past few years in understanding the pathogenesis, but each new truth raises more questions and much remains to be done.
