Pages 37-43 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

To help the general practitioner-anesthetist administer anesthesia safely and with maximal benefit, the care of various types of patients is reviewed, including elderly persons, infants and children, and patients with heart trouble, pulmonary disease, and electrolyte imbalance. Accurate preoperative assessment and proper postoperative care are stressed. Suggestions are made concerning the care and transport of unconscious patients, emphasizing adequate ventilation and prevention of aspiration.
